How to Customize Your Engagement Session | Engagement Week Part 4

As your wedding & engagement photographer, it’s my goal to give you a 100% unique experience! I want your engagement session to be all about YOU! Of course, I’d be happy if I showed up at an awesome location and you guys were wearing the perfect outfits, but it won’t mean as much as it would if I photographed at the park where you went for your first date. It’s super important to make this session, the resulting photos and the experience special to you guys. There are SO many ways I can customize a session to one couple and I’m listing a few of my favorite ways below:

Pick a Location that Means Something to You

Let’s go to the hometown where you first met. Or we can explore the city where you moved into your first apartment. If you just bought your first house together, let’s photograph there! If there is special to you, unique location you would love to photograph your engagement session at, I’m down!

Echo & Jeremy first met during the summer at this apartment complex pool while with their friends. They wanted to visit this location during their engagement session because fate brought them together that day. Josh & Joey choose Josh's childhood home for the location of their engagement session. They met when they were just in elementary school and were friends for almost two decades before deciding that they were meant to be together. We couldn't have picked a better location for Josh & Joey! Josh & Joey choose Josh’s childhood home for the location of their engagement session. Incorporate Your Pets!

I just love when my clients want to get their furry friends involved during their engagement session! If your pet didn’t mean anything to you, you probably wouldn’t have them in the first place, right? Why not bring them along to your session for just a few photos together? They’re your family after all and I just love getting a few photos of my engaged couples with their fur-babies! If you decide to bring your pets along, I recommend asking someone that is familiar with your pets to tag along and play pet-sitter when the pets are finished with photos.

Shy & Keith bought their first house earlier in 2015 and wanted a family photo on their front porch to start off their engagement session. Their dogs were so well behaved for their photos! Highlight Something that’s Important to you

What are your hobbies? Are you guys obsessed with a TV show or movie? What’s your favorite superhero? Does one or both of you play an instrument? Anything that is special to you guys and your relationship and want to incorporate into your session would make it really fun for all of us! I love themes and (some) props – I want your photos to reflect YOU!

Kyle is a fantastic guitar player and Ashlee wanted to get some pictures of them at their engagement session with his guitar. It made the session really special and fun to photograph & it was something unique to them! Jason & Ashley were always good friends in school and even performed together on stage at their high school! Music, performing and creativity is such a huge part of them - as a couple and as individuals! They wanted to do a bit of a themed shoot for their engagement session - 50s vintage inspired. To help give a bit of drama to their theme, we instructed Jason to dip Ashley just as he did for some of their high school performances! I hope that this blog post helped inspire you for your own engagement session! The whole thing to remember is that YOU’RE the ones getting married and it’s YOUR engagement session. I want my clients to feel safe in who they are and to be nothing less than themselves. If you need help planning your engagement session, please let me know and I’d be glad to help you in any way I can 🙂
