For the past couple of years, I’ve dedicated the early winter weeks to picking, packaging, and shipping holiday gifts to my wedding and engagement clients. It’s so much fun to give back AND shop for others! All of my clients are always so surprised to receive the gift and are so appreciative. It makes that little bit of extra effort worth the work (and expense)! I’ve had a ton of people ask where I purchased some of the gifts I’ve featured on my Instagram and personal Facebook page, so I thought putting together a quick blog post would be the most helpful!
I kept it pretty simple last year, but this year, I wanted to do something a bit different. But I just couldn’t think of what to do. So, like what any good Millennial would do, I hit up Google for some ideas. It led me to a couple of blog posts written by other photographers. On one post, the photographer talked about making the gifts personal. But she also talked about picking gifts that reflected your brand, without actually buying stuff and slapping your logo on it. That way your clients would know without a doubt who the gift was from but didn’t feel like they were being gifted something generic that was bought in bulk. Keeping experiences unique is what I’m all about and her words spoke to me in so many different ways. And that was only the beginning.
I wrote down a list of everyone I needed to shop for and I put some serious thought into each couple – what they like, how they met, and what their story is all about. One of my biggest challenges was that I wanted to only shop local or small businesses. It wasn’t as challenging as what I thought it would be and I’m happy to admit that a majority of the gifts I purchased came from Etsy shops.
A couple I met in September for their engagement session before their August 2017 wedding is obsessed with Ohio sports teams, specifically the Crew and the Bucks. I found an awesome piece of art that’s locally made in Cleveland that I was really excited about!

Another couple that I absolutely adore is obsessed with all things boho and donuts – yes, we get along quite well because of that! 😉 I was originally going to mail donuts from the same shop that provided the donuts at their wedding this fall, but thought that might end up not being a good idea. What if the donuts went stale?! Instead, I found these cute boho-inspired Mr & Mrs mugs and I knew that my couple would just love them! And the arrow tied in perfectly with my brand!

The last thing I want to feature from my holiday gifts is the calligraphy that my friend, Leigh, did for a few of the gifts. Leigh is a calligrapher in Columbus and she’s pretty awesome! I did a pup & me session for her earlier this year and I’ve been waiting for an excuse to contact her with some calligraphy needs! You can check out more of her work on her Facebook and Instagram.
I’m so very grateful for the amazing clients I’ve had the pleasure of working with this year and I’m excited to continue working with a few of them again in 2017! Yay, so many fall weddings in 2017 – I’m so excited 🙂
I can’t believe it’s already almost 2017 – thankfully just a couple more days to go! I sincerely hope 2017 brings even more amazing memories and clients as 2016 did! I’m one lucky wedding photographer 🙂
