First of all, welcome to my new website and blog! I’m beyond excited that you are here and ready to dive into my new web home and share this journey with me! I’ll be sharing another post detailing more of the specifics of my new website, so for the rest of this post, I’m going to be doing something I don’t necessarily like to do: talk about myself.
It feels like a long time since I’ve written about myself on my blog. If you’re an Instagram follower, you’ve probably seen the occasional #fridayintroductions post. If you’re not following me on Instagram, ya should be. Just sayin’. But in honor of my BRAND NEW WEBSITE (I can’t stop saying that!), I felt like it was time for a reintroduction.
1. Firstly, I’m Steph!
I’m just your friendly, neighborhood wedding photographer. I photographed my first wedding in 2013 and have been busting tail ever since to become a BAMF wedding photographer!
The part of my origin story I don’t get into that often is how it all began for me. I didn’t grow up with a camera in hand, but I watched my mother my entire life be THE “family photographer.” Every birthday. Every Christmas and Easter. Every reunion. Even a couple of my cousins’ senior photos! My own journey in photography didn’t start until I was in high school.
I was on the yearbook staff and enjoyed photographing school plays and sporting events but beyond that, I didn’t envision myself as a photographer. I was going to college to study journalism … to become a writer. But then college came around and I learned that I loathed writing news articles. Truly, I probably should have studied literature and English, as being an author was much more up my alley, but if I had done that, I may never have become a photographer. It was during my college years at Otterbein that I joined the newspaper staff and found my love for photography. My parents gave me my first camera – a used Nikon D60 – and not long after that, a friend from high school asked me to photograph her senior photos. Fast-forward a few years and here we are 🙂
2. #Dogmom status
I’m the dog mom of the best damn dog out there! Clark is a bit of an odd mix. I call him my happy little accident! His mom is a chihuahua/dachshund mix and his daddy is a beagle. He’s seriously the cutest little guy I’ve ever seen and is a good boy about 85% of the time! I’d be so lost without him!
Clark was the light at the end of a very dark tunnel when he entered my life almost three years ago. He filled the emptiness I felt inside after an incredibly tough year. He filled my life with love and light and laughter. I’m lucky to be his mama.
3. I’m slightly obsessed with tacos
Emphasis on slightly. 😉 I could go on and on, but there’s only so much I need to say. Because, tacos. Oh, and I love tacos enough to have some headshots taken at one of my favorite spots!
These are my favorite taco joints in Columbus:
- Condado – the corn salsa and queso? To die for!
- Bakersfield – their margs are legit and the pollo rojo taco is the best!
- Dos Hermanos @ the North Market – if I’m looking for a simple, authentic taco, this is the first place I go (but also because of it’s closeness to Destination Donut).
4. In general, I just love food!
So much so, I briefly considered going to culinary school. While I have a slight obsession with tacos, I love (almost) all kinds of food! Secretly, one of the best parts of photographing weddings is getting to sample cake and delicious desserts the couples serve their guests!
5. Like cats? I’ve got those, too.
I don’t talk too much about all of my fur babies anymore, but my kittos are pretty special. Khaleesi and Mystique are very sassy cats with a ton of attitude. If you guys didn’t know me so well, I’m sure you’d say they’re a perfect fit for my little family, huh?
6. Have passport, will travel
Like many other 20-somethings, I love to travel! And yet again, like many other 20-somethings, I wish I had the ability to travel more. I’m incredibly grateful to have had the opportunities to visit and explore and experience new cultures in Costa Rica (2010) and Jamaica (2015). And I’ve had the opportunity to explore NYC twice! I especially loved the Lower East Side and Brooklyn – Times Square was just too touristy for me.
You know those Facebook posts you see every now and then that ask you to check mark all of the places you’ve ever traveled? Ya, there’s still way too many places I need to check off those lists! In the spring of 2019, I’m hoping to check New Orleans off my list. If I’m even lucky, maybe I’ll get the chance to explore more cities along the West coast.
7. I love looking through old photos from my childhood
I was so lucky to have an incredibly wonderful and carefree childhood. Both of my parents are still married. I grew up going to my grandparents’ houses and am still very close to all of my grandparents. I may be an only child, but many of my cousins are more like siblings to me and I’ve loved seeing them grow up to have such amazing spouses and families. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that I was a pretty cute kid, right?!
8. Random Facts
I’m a Netflix junkie! I love watching superhero movies, especially Marvel ones. I learned to cook from my amazing grandmas and my mother. I have big aspirations to write a few books a bit later in life: a cook book, a comedic memoir of my young adult life, and a collection of short stories about vivid dreams I’ve experienced. I currently work at IKEA Columbus and I love it (most days)! I was briefly married to my high school sweetheart and while it may not have worked out, I still very much believe in love and marriage. All of the weddings I get to photograph give me hope that one day I’ll meet a good guy that will make me fall in love again.
Now, if you still haven’t had enough of me yet – continue checking out my BRAND NEW WEBSITE!
Because, it’s pretty awesome.
