Ryan & Sunny: Second Shooting for Lauren Melanne
On September 2, 2017, I woke up bright and early and drove to Granville to assist Lauren Melanne Photography with one of her dear friends’ wedding day! Ryan & Sunny were married on the rainiest wedding day of the season at Orchard House Bed & Breakfast and there’s just so much to share about this day!
Firstly, I’ve been photographing weddings for five years and this was my first rainy wedding day! Shocking, right?! On one hand, I was miserable – I resembled a wet, drowned rat for 95% of the day – but on the other hand, Sunny & Ryan brought such a warm light to the day. Their joy and love for each other made everyone forget about the rain and rejoice in the reason why everyone was gathered – to watch them become man and wife. Oddly enough, their wedding day was inspired by their love of hiking, the outdoors, and the PNW, so it was kind of fitting that it rain on their wedding day!
Speaking of the PNW, can we just talk about the woods on this property?! As soon as I saw where the ceremony was being held, I was awestruck. I’ve never been to the PNW (I hope to one day) and I’m almost positive that the woods at the Orchard House on Sunny and Ryan’s wedding day was practically like being in the PNW. Rain and all!
Once you start scrolling through all of the photos, you’ll notice that I’ve included quite a few more shots from the ceremony than I normally do. I never really intend to short-side the ceremony part of the day (and I don’t in what I deliver to clients!), but I just don’t spend much time in sharing ceremony shots on my blog because most often the shots can just be so repetitive. Sunny and Ryan’s ceremony was anything but repetitive! Opening prayers, a song sang and played by members of their wedding party, breaking bread and drinking of the wine … there were so many personal touches and so much thought put into their ceremony. That’s what makes it truly special.
Now – to my second favorite part about this blog post: my three favorite things from Sunny & Ryan’s wedding day!
- The rain. Seriously! Before that day, I’d never photographed a wedding in the rain. Now, I know two things. I’ll survive another rainy wedding day – with or without umbrellas. Preferably with umbrellas, though. And now, I know I’ll survive a trip to the PNW!
- Ryan & Sunny’s strength and love for each other and their friends and family. This day was definitely not lacking in love. It was clear how important the day was to them, and to their friends and family. I’m honored to have been a witness to it.
- Getting to work with Lauren Melanne for the first time at a wedding! So thankful she asked me to help her shoot her friends’ wedding! Here are some fun BTS shots of Lauren!
