The Year of Showcasing What (and Who) You Love
After spending the last few hours putting together this post, I can’t help but feel so lucky to do what I do. I’m incredibly thankful to all of my couples for trusting me to document their love and giving me access into their lives. During engagement sessions, I purposefully ask questions about them and their love story, not only to make everyone feel comfortable, but also so I can get to know them as a couple. And if I’m going to be honest, it’s mostly for selfish reasons! At the end of the day, being a photographer would be practically meaningless to me without the relationships I develop with my couples. Being a photographer is not just a simple transaction for me. Being friends with my couples is the most important thing to me when working with them on their wedding day and that wouldn’t be as easy if it were not for the time spent during their engagement session. So thanks to you guys!
This year, I photographed more engagement sessions than I think I ever have before. To make that statement even better, every single one of them was an entirely unique experience! I did not photograph in the same location more than once and each couple made their experience entirely their own. This is something that I always suggest and strive for but nonetheless, makes me so happy to say was exactly what happened this year.
The only thing that would have made this year’s engagement sessions slightly better would be if I had photographed more dogs. However, with the amount of food I photographed this year, I think I’m okay with it 😉 Just to summarize, I photographed: ice cream, tacos, pizza (twice!), apples (during apple-picking), and donuts. During every engagement session, we explored new parts of town and I found NINE new favorite spots for photos.
Most importantly, we focused on moments, feelings, and experiences. More so than in any other year. My goal is to document moments as they happen at weddings, so why not at engagement sessions, too? After preparing this blog post, all I have to say is mission accomplished.
