Now that we’re officially in the “off season” and most of my tax prep is finished (WOOOO HOOOO!), I’m trying to get caught back up on office-y things: blogging, updating my website, organizing and backing up files. Oh, and meeting with 2019 and 2020 couples! I cannot wait to photograph some weddings and engagements this year! Believe it or not, my blogging isn’t actually that far behind. 🙂
Michael & Chelsea are two pretty spectacular people! I had the honor of meeting them at one of my 2017 weddings as they are friends with one of my couples. Chelsea and Nicole are the truest of friends and have known each other for years. Chelsea was Nicole’s maid of honor and actually got engaged to Michael the same night that I photographed Nicole and Andrew’s engagement session! When Nicole told me all about them, I couldn’t wait to meet them and secretly hoped they would ask me to photograph their wedding. Fast forward a few months, I was meeting with Michael and Chelsea at a local Panera and they booked me on the spot!
A few days before the wedding, I was speaking to Chelsea about weather backup plans. She said she WANTED it to rain! It rained on her parents’ wedding day and she wanted the same good luck for her and Michael. On the day of the wedding, rain didn’t look likely. I’m normally much more prepared on wedding days, but oddly I was very flustered the morning of their wedding. I live on the opposite side of the city from the venue and left with a few minutes to spare and drove 1.5 exits away from home before I realized I left behind the hanger I promised Chelsea I’d bring with me for her dress. I remembered just in time to hit an exit ramp and turn around for home. I sped like a crazy lady. Until it started POURING RAIN! I couldn’t help but smile through the stress. Chelsea got her wish.
By the time I got to the venue, the rain had long let up. It didn’t even rain in Hilliard! But let me tell you, the look on Chelsea’s face when I told her about the rain in New Albany was priceless! It set the tone for the entire day. For the most part, everything ran smoothly and nothing throw us off schedule. A miracle for weddings! Michael and Chelsea had an outdoor ceremony by the lake and it was beautiful! Who am I kidding? The whole day was beautiful!
For once, picking my three favorite things was pretty easy 🙂
- All of Chelsea’s first looks! Before going outside to see her father, Chelsea did a quick first look with her and Michael’s moms. It was so special! I honestly don’t see a lot of couples do first looks with moms and this was my second one of the year. After lots of hugs and a few happy tears, Chelsea and I went outside where she did a first look with her dad. His reaction to seeing her in her wedding dress was AMAZING! It was the biggest reaction I’ve seen from a father and that means something to me. My biggest piece of advice when it comes to weddings is to just let yourself feel your emotions.
- The venue Michael and Chelsea picked for their wedding was incredible. WatersEdge Event Center is one of a few properties owned by the same company and all of the venues are all-inclusive! There aren’t a ton of all-inclusive wedding venues in Columbus, but these guys do it right! The property itself is stunning. It has a lake that faces west, so it’s the perfect location for sunset photos after the ceremony. Inside the venue is so pretty, you don’t truly need a lot of decor, but they did a great job with it, too! Oh and the cafe lights are a BIG favorite of mine.
- Obviously, the couple is a major favorite of mine! The whole day was filled with so much love and happiness and FUN – it was a true reflection of them as a couple. Getting to know Michael and Chelsea has been so easy, like we’d been friends for a lifetime. They love the outdoors, enjoy my love of nature-inspired ring shots, and are dog people. What could be better? And yes, they dig tacos, too.
